■Column■ Introducing NAKATA KOGEI's original internal qualification system, the “Meister System”

At our company, we have established a unique internal qualification system called the “Meister System. Under this system, craftsmen who have acquired advanced skills in hanger production are certified as “Meisters” (or Masters) of hanger making.

Since there are no official examinations or national certifications that formally recognize these specialized skills, we decided to create our own internal qualification framework. This initiative was born from the idea: “Why don’t we establish our own system to recognize and certify our craftsmen?”

Certification is granted only to individuals who are not only highly skilled, but also trusted by those around them and recognized as having a strong personal commitment and mindset at a high level.

The evaluation is based on three key principles: *Shin-Gi-Tai (心・技・体)

Shin (Trust): Whether the individual is trusted by their colleagues
Gi (Skill): Whether they can consistently meet required quality and speed standards
Tai (Attitude): Whether they are committed to training and developing junior staff, and demonstrate sincerity and professionalism as a craftsman

We believe that a Meister is not just a title, but a “presence.” Alongside mastering highly advanced technical skills in their field, they are also expected to embody values that go beyond simply passing on traditional craftsmanship.

Recently, three employees successfully passed the internal evaluation and were newly certified as Meister.

This system was introduced not only to recognize such individuals, but also to ensure that important skills are passed on to the next generation. In addition, it serves as a pathway for career development for our craftsmen.

This is not a title that can be granted simply for technical ability alone. It is also essential that Meisters become role models—people whom junior staff can look up to and aspire to become themselves.

One of the certified Meisters shared the following words:

Because this system exists, both I and my juniors can feel reassured that we can clearly and steadily develop our skills. The more difficult it is to achieve, the more valuable it becomes.

Since advancement is possible based on years of service and continued growth, certification is not the end, but rather a step toward further improvement. We hope that craftsmen engaged in high-level manufacturing will not only gain financial rewards, but also experience greater fulfillment, pride, and a sense of purpose in their work.

* Reference Note: What is Shin-Gi-Tai?
Shin-Gi-Tai (心・技・体) originates from the philosophy of traditional Japanese martial arts such as judo and kendo.

Shin (心) – Mind / Spirit / Mental Strength
Gi (技) – Technique / Skill
Tai (体) – Body / Physical Strength

The concept teaches that true excellence can only be achieved when these three elements are developed in balance. In other words, maximum performance is possible only when mental strength, technical skill, and physical capability are all aligned and working together.

Today, Shin-Gi-Tai is widely used not only in martial arts but also in business, craftsmanship, sports, and personal development and sustainable success.
