The Noto earthquake that occurred on January 1st, 2024 caused a significant damage to people in Ishikawa including lacquer workshops and craftsmen that have being working with us. We had stopped taking orders for a while, but the production has now been resumed. Since we are manufacturing the product and while preparing the tools, we will be able to accept orders and the estimated time for delivery will be about a year. Wajima lacquerware is a Japanese traditional craft technique and is said to be the greatest of lacquerware. It is our mission to keep on ordering and save this 500 years technique and the craftsmen to exist. Company History "Skill improvement" #nakatahangerhistory A picture of a wooden hanger for a jacket taken about 60 years ago. It is written as "Hakuraigata". Most of the hangers at that time were flat, but this one has thick and rounded shoulders. "Hakuraigata" means carried by a ship from abroad, and it seems that a craftsman of our company made the hanger in imitation of foreign ones. The fact that the shape of the hanger was called that way reminds me that hangers were brought from abroad. I also imagine that there was some kind of admiration for Europe, the center of fashion. In the 1960's, NAKATA KOGEI's woodworking skills were further refined. Until then, flat hangers were the mainstream, but we started to make curved and thick hangers.
