トランクショー ニューヨーク

We have held a "Trunk Show" event to receive custom orders for hangers in New York, USA.

The location was at The Armoury, a select shop for men`s wear based in Hong Kong and in New York.

This was our first time holding a trunk show in US and we would like to share some information from our point of view.

Trunk Show

"The Armoury" has two stores in New York and this time, we have held the event for one day each at both stores.

2024.5.31 The Armoury Upper East Side

On the first day, we started our event at the Upper East Side store located on the east side of the Central Park.

The area is lined with quiet residentials and luxury shops. Carefully selected items from all over the world are stocked which greatly matches with the sophisticated and calm interiors.

Requests for various shoulder width sizes and specifications were very unique for us. We have received many inquiries about pattern orders and sizes with great interest from the customers.

2024.6.1 The Armoury Tribeca

On the second day, we held the event at The Armoury Tribeca store, which is the first store of The Armoury in US. The atmosphere of the store was classic, casual, and relaxing. The playfulness and style of the staffs were also very appealing.

Following our trunk show in Hong Kong, we once again exhibited Wajima lacquer hangers and have received few orders.

Some people choose it as a wedding gift or as a gift for their family. It was very grateful and happy to see people from overseas choosing our hangers as a gift.

The Armoury NY
10th Anniversary Party

The day before the trunk show, The Armoury New York's 10th anniversary party was held at a venue in Manhattan.

We were also invited to join with many guests including The Armoury staffs, partners and clients.

In the speech by Mark Cho, he talked about The Armoury's history, his thoughts and feelings of gratitude as they celebrated their 10th anniversary. We were very honored to be able to join on such a precious event.

After the New York
trunk show

I attended the trunk show in NY following the one in Hong Kong last year. Talking with customers and staffs is my joy. It is always very special and fun time, and makes me excited to think that our hangers are used all over the world.

Actually I visited NY on my private trip 4 years ago and stopped by The Armoury Tribeca's store. I remember thinking to myself at that time, " I do my best to come back here for business next time." So by this trunk show, I could achieve my private purpose. I did it!

During my stay, I hanged out around the apartment every morning (to recover from jetlag). By walking, I can see and feel lots of things. People's fashion, good smell from a kitchen-car, police car's siren, and many lovely dogs! They are the pieces of the city. Every city, every country has their different and unique pieces. I love discovering such a small but great piece there. Of course introducing our hangers to the customers is our most important mission in the trunk show. But watching the city by myself is also precious thing.

With a piece of hanger, what city can we visit next?
I can't wait!

My first visit to New York was when I was a student and I traveled with my roommate together. I remember that we were walking around the city of my dreams as long as we had the strength, without taking cabs or subways in the freezing cold. At the time, I dreamed of one day going to the U.S. on business, so this visiting for trunk show to the country was very special for me because I was able to make that dream come true.

For us, there is nothing happier than to be able to listen to our customers and talk to them through their eyes in real time. Especially at the trunk show, I felt that we were able to deliver hangers not to "someone across the ocean" but to "this client right in front of us". It was very enjoyable to meet people we would not normally meet because of a single hanger. I was also touched to meet and spend the same time with The Armoury staffs in person. I am so grateful for the warm welcome I received.

The moments when I feel the happiest during my stay abroad are when I look at the streets, the people, the colors of advertisements, and the displays in the supermarkets. It can be said to be an ordinary moment in daily life, but the feeling of being touched and inspired by the sensibilities of the local people is something you can only get from being away from Japan in a foreign country. I would like to bring back to NAKATA HANGER and myself the ideas I encountered there.
